Olive oil is only distantly related to olives

This oil is in fact the result of mixing a large quantity of chemically refined oils (therefore colourless and tasteless) with a small quantity of virgin olive oil, which simply serves to restore colour, flavour and aroma to an oil that would otherwise be of very low quality.

P.S.: refining is usually carried out using hexane, a gas derived from petroleum processing that is highly toxic to humans.
