High-quality extra virgin olive oil is rich in phenolic compounds (oleocanthal, oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol, to name a few); these are natural substances that offer numerous health benefits thanks to their antioxidant (oleuropein), anti-inflammatory (oleocanthal) and cardiovascular protective (hydroxytyrosol) properties.

They also help reduce bad LDL cholesterol and increase good HDL cholesterol. Obviously, this is always in conjunction with a balanced diet.
